

If you are new to digital drawing I am sure you’ll be amazed, both by how easy it is to pick it up, and by the new range of drawing potential it provides. Over the last few years the digital medium has become an important drawing tool for me and a integral part of my illustration process overall. I’m a Toronto illustrator who specializes in book illustration, portraiture, editorial illustration and exhibition design.

It took me around two weeks to get acquainted with the main features of the drawing app, and another two weeks to pick up speed and increase self-confidence. You won’t get bored drawing just a bunch of basic shapes. Picking a different tutorial each day keeps it fun.

You’ll learn to work with common features, such as layering, shadowing, selecting brushes, how to draw within a certain area only, and working with the color palette. Art by Melody (she skips absolutely no steps so you can start from zero).I’d recommend going through videos on the following YouTube channels in order, from absolute illustration noobs to confident beginners: Search “ Procreate tutorials for beginners” on YouTube and pick a drawing you’d enjoy working on.
